Reminder: The NBN Changeover is Mandatory if you wish to keep your landline service.

I've been made aware of some disturbing information getting around Finley latley. Multiple people have informed me that another local business has been giving out bad information, such as "Don't switch to the NBN, They can't force you" and other such things.
This is complete nonsense, and if you've been told this, you have been given bad information.

Let's get into the actual FACTS. and here it is:

If you wish to keep your landline service (House Phone, Internet, Etc), then you will have to switch over to the NBN.

Why you ask? Because the old network gets turned off by Telstra roughly 18 months after the NBN becomes available in an area. (For us in Finley, that would put the estimated cut off date as September 2019)

So that means, after September 2019 (Estimated Date), if you haven't switched to the NBN, your Landline and Internet will be cut off.

If you need more information on this, Here is an article all about people getting cut off because they haven't switched over: https://www.news.com.au/technology/online/nbn/australians-ignoring-the-nbn-arrival-are-having-their-internet-and-home-phone-connection-abruptly-shut-off/news-story/4f0e1eacf1c11573f4fd6a08d4213a88

So, What gets disconnected?

According to NBN Co, the following services will be permanently disconnected for all Australians living in fixed-line NBN areas if you don't arrange to move them to the NBN network before the advised date.
Please note that residents receiving fixed wireless or SkyMuster satellite NBN services will not have these services cut off.
  • Telstra home/landline phone services
  • Home/landline phone services from all other phone companies, where the service is provided over Telstra's copper phone lines
  • All ADSL, ADSL2 and ADSL2+ Internet services from all providers
  • Telstra BigPond cable Internet services
  • Optus cable Internet and cable phone services

This brings us back to the way that the NBN has been rolled out in Finley.
If you live on the EAST side of the train lines you don't have a cut off date, as the EAST side is serviced by Fixed Wireless. (You should still switch anyway, as the copper-line quality in that area is really bad)
If you live on the WEST side of the train lines, which is most of the town, the cut-off date for the old network is around September 2019.

So, seriously, Don't wait around, switch over now.
If you're happy with your current provider (Example: Telstra), contact them, and they will change you over, and you will keep your phone number and @bigpond email address.

But if you don't care about your @bigpond email address, and/or use another companies email address, (Example: Gmail), Then you can get a much better deal by switching to a different company altogether. And you can take your phone number with you if you switch to a different company.
